Established by the Arkansas Medical Society in 1989, the Arkansas Health Care Access Foundation, Inc. is a volunteer based medical referral program whose mission is to provide donated non-emergency medical care to Arkansas’ low income medically uninsured citizens.

The Foundation is one of only five unique programs in the United States that organizes medical volunteers on a statewide scale to serve those who meet ALL of the following:

  • U.S. citizens (or attach a copy of their legal resident alien card)
  • Arkansas residents
  • Medically uninsured (without Medicaid, Medicare Part B, VA medical benefits)
  • And within 100% of the current Federal Poverty Level Guidelines.

Interested Arkansans may apply for the program by contacting their local county Department of Health and Human Services office. The application process is quick and easy. Applications are usually processed in approximately 1 week. Once approved, the applicant may call the toll-free number to access care.

Currently donating their goods and services are almost 2,000 Arkansas physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacies, pharmaceutical companies, Arkansas hospitals, as well as home health agencies.

Arkansas Health Care Access Foundation is an award-winning program. It has been a finalist for the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award, and was a grand-prize winner in 1996. The Golden Rule Award was to honor volunteer service to communities. In addition, the Arkansas Health Care Access program has been recognized as a “Daily Point of Light” by the Points of Light Foundation, a national organization chaired by Presidents Clinton, and Bush to honor services to those in need.
